Fuck Your Brutal Honesty

I always advocate for honesty and how it is the best policy.

In my eyes, as long as you’re respectful, you can do no wrong, no matter how hurtful the thing you might be saying is.

However, I don’t think brutality is a word that should go hand in hand with honesty or police for that matter.

9 out of 10 cases, there’s a way to get your point across, truthfully, without being trash about it.

You have to be decent and respectful, and no, disliking the other person doesn’t give you leeway.

Saying “yes” or “no” in non-demeaning ways IS possible, and so is saying how you feel without hurting others.

You can, and should, pause before you speak. A deep breath or a mere second should be enough reflection time to make a difference.

Ask yourself: would I be adding to the conversation with what I want to say? Can I say it more clearly, interestingly, humanely?

Keep your brutality, it’s neither needed nor wanted.

Whoever convinced the world that brutal honesty is a charming personality trait, if I’m being brutally honest, there’s a special place in hell for you.
